Tweens and Adolescents

Middle School

Middle school is so confusing. A step away from elementary school. High school just around the corner. Dating, texting, social media. Always preparing for the next day, grade, experience – but not quite there yet.

This age group is very special. They aren’t kids, but they haven’t yet arrived at the next stage. They are beginning to break free of home and family, sprouting their wings, but uncertain about how to fly.

High School

Waiting. Always waiting.

They feel ready, but the adults don’t think so. So many exciting things happen in high school: driving, dating, prom, heartbreak, sports, drinking, drugs. It’s an avalanche of change.

These are magical years.

They are still hungry to learn, no matter how grown up they try to be.

Growing is what they do naturally every day, so it’s a good fit to help them grow emotionally.

Safe Space

We start where they are comfortable – I meet them where they are.

I provide language/ vocabulary to talk about what’s going on for them. When they’re ready, we talk about the “stuff” they’re carrying around.

Knowing this, I teach skills and strategies.

Together, we practice using them in the safety of my office through rehearsal and role play. We do so many things, that by the time we’re done, these kids have a tool box filled with useful tools for life.

Bridging the Gap

They don’t have to figure everything out on their own.
